SCREENING PROCEDURES FOR THE GIFTED PROGRAM
The screening process for the gifted program is composed of several steps. The first step regards the child’s standardized test scores. Each fall, the Counselor and the gifted teacher will look at every student's achievement scores from the previous spring. We may look at several achievement tests including, but not limited to, Stanford 10, TerraNova, and/or MAP scores. The criteria that we look for is in Reading, Math, and/or Science, which must fall at or above the 95th percentile in two of the content areas in order to proceed with the evaluation process.
We will then contact the previous and/or current classroom teacher(s) in order to obtain the teacher recommendation through the use of (but not limited to) the Teacher Nomination Form. After receiving the teacher’s recommendation, the Counselor who is also a certified Psychological Examiner, may administer the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – 5th edition (WISC-V).
To qualify for the gifted program in the Bolivar R-1 School District, students must meet the following criteria:
1. WISC-V: Individual Intelligence Test, I.Q. score of 125 or above
2. Two Standardized Achievement test scores of 95 or above and/or Advanced in Reading, Mathematics, or Science
3. Nomination form, score of 85% or above
or
4. Creativity test of 85% or above
